Marriage

Quote from I Too, Am Malay by Zaid Ibrahim:

“Marriage changed my lifestyle in many ways. I was rapt by Suliana, as a wife and educated woman. We lived happily as husband and wife with few problems. It’s just Suliana would pout whenever I got home late. But she believes in the goodness of people. She has never denigrated anyone. To me, she is like an unblemished apple that is hard to come by. She gave new meaning and hope for family life. I was no longer a selfish young man who only thought of having fun. We have been blessed with three children, two sons and a daughter. Suliana is like the air I breathe to me, my oxygen. She gives meaning to my life. She also determines the direction of our life and family stability. My love for her has not diminished from the early days. As it’s said, she is my inspiration.”

*melts into a puddle of melted stuff*

In this time when news of sex scandals and affairs abound, Men like Zaid and Paul-whose-full-name-is-too-long-to-type-out make me believe in happy endings for marriages. After almost 20 years of marriage, Paul would still mention his wife with a glow in his eyes, and a sheepish smile on his face. This guy actually proposed to his wife within 10 days of meeting her!! Crazy fella and kudos to his wife for not dismissing him as that.

Paul said: ”you will know it when it’s the right person”.

But then just yesterday, my primary school tuition teacher said, on the same topic: “you will never know one”.

So, will I know or not know??
